As time passed, he shed parts of his body until there was just his mind inside a machine.
He was born dead, but they
Breathed life back into his lungs.
What he got from the world
Was ridicule, because he understood more
Than anyone that suffering was necessary.
The mourners at his funeral tore their clothing, wailed in the gutter and fasted for twenty two days.
She was born blue with suffocation.
Sun and work blistered her skin.
She feared what she knew true
Until fear just didn’t matter anymore
And love was all there was.
The vermin nested in her skull having dug in through her empty eye sockets to eat her brain.
Ten perfect fingers, ten perfect toes,
All bound by reality too cruel
Until she ran, laughing, never stopping,
And the words finally found her
Making everything clear all at once.
They never found her body, but they always felt her watching, especially when the lights were turned out.
